personal sharps containers
A personal sharps container gives a used needle somewhere safe to go when you are not at home. EasyTouch makes two in the same compact black shell. The personal container has a daisy lid: flexible petals open to accept a syringe, lancet or pen needle and close behind it, so nothing comes back out. The Mini DualSafe splits the shell into two compartments, one for new syringes and one for used, so a single container carries the day's supply and its disposal.
Both hold up to ten syringes and fit purses, backpacks, glove compartments and diabetes travel kits. They come in packs of five for personal use and in cartons of fifty for clinics, school nurses, educators and pharmacies that hand them out with kits.
Never recap a used needle and never throw loose sharps in household trash. Drop the syringe needle-first into the container right after the injection, close the lid when it is full, and follow your local rules for household sharps disposal; many pharmacies, clinics and community programs run collection sites.
Every insulin syringe, pen needle and lancet in a diabetes routine ends up as a sharp. EasyTouch added personal sharps containers so the brand covers the routine from the first test to safe disposal. MHC Medical Products, the manufacturer behind EasyTouch, designs them with the same in-house quality control as its insulin syringes and test strips, and keeps the price affordable compared with typical retail.
Keep one personal container next to your glucose meter and another in your travel case, and the used needle always has somewhere secure to go. Many people with diabetes, and many owners of diabetic pets, keep one in the car.
Anything with a point: insulin syringes of any gauge, pen needles from an insulin pen, twist lancets and safety lancets, and blunt needles used for vials. The daisy lid is designed so a needle goes in fast and cannot come back out, which is the safety support a busy diabetes management routine needs. When a container is full, follow the verified disposal rules for your area; many pharmacies and health department websites list drop-off sites.
